I am not a combat veteran, I don’t know much of any weapons. But I did play a lot of games. :)
This DShk is an awesome solution, to lasted 90 years in changing battlefield.
Now that we entered drone warfare, which was about 2014. I am amazed they have not came up with a similar solution.
When shooting aircraft, you may need some powerful caliber.
But for small drones, you need more of a fly squatter.
Sniper pinned down Dallas city police
In the historic 2016 Dallas ambush, police used an explosive-rigged robot to kill Micah Xavier Johnson, a military veteran who had killed five officers. However, I believe there is no record of an incident where a veteran used a robot to pin down police

Have anyone tried to shoot a flying object like a bee or a fly? Never been done before. Most of us can shoot a fly if it was parked and stationary. But in motion, it’s simply too hard.
Our rate of targeting is simply too slow versus the rate of change in the target’s mobility. Which is not or was not an issue with large aircraft or helicopters.
How a fly swatter compensate is having a target area larger than the potential adjustment in the fly’s mobility.
Another way to solve this problem of high mobility against slower targeting limitations
The term you are looking for is likely a box barrage (or barrage fire). This World War II anti-aircraft tactic involved multiple batteries firing explosive shells into a specific “box” or predetermined volume of airspace ahead of an incoming bomber formation, hoping to catch the planes in a wall of shrapnel.
We can also augment a new type of gun, specifically designed to match the mobility of drone. Where the gun and sensor is adjusting faster than the mobility of the drone itself.
I suppose this is the inverse philosophy of Putin’s Oreshnik or Kinzhal. Where he exceed the targeting speed of the Iron Dome or defense station. Making the counter measure faster than the offense. It wouldnt be as hard as targeting hypersonic missiles as Drone maximum speed is not nearly as fast.
We can probably uses a formation of men to form a box barrage, using existing weapons, best available on hand. With a few days of training, can potentially fire in synchronized box barrage pattern.
You can probably build a gun rack, that allow you to fire a dozen guns with one trigger, with a simple mechanical and hydraulic, and zero electronics. An improved fly swatter in a way.
Electronic Warfare (EW) Jammers: Devices like DroneShield disrupt control and GPS frequencies, forcing drones to land or return to home.
Directed Energy & Lasers: Systems like the US Army’s LIDS (featuring KuRFS radar and Coyote missiles) and high-power microwave arrays like Epirus Leonidas fry drone electronics or use cost-effective missiles to intercept single and swarm threats.
Like many Americans, technology heavily relies on higher tech.
I am thinking what can possibly produce something effective without any electronics.

The Human mind is also something of a high potential machinery. It is entirely capable of doing predictive modeling and shooting at a future position of a flying object where computer requires massive electronics in sensors and algorithms to hit.
This seems like a market that has not been captured yet. Sort of like the AI market, but without the bubble.
After all that was said and done, all these resources and mental ability could have been used towards other activities besides killing people and destroying communities.
I also realize, people will do what they have done for thousands of years, or millions of years. War is part of life.
If it had been better if war was only a game that children play.
